Dharamshila Rahat Medical Centre (Dharamshila Rahat) is an affordable Medical Centre, offering Supportive and Palliative Care, promoted by Dharamshila Cancer Foundation And Research Centre. It is integrated with Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (DNSH) located at Vasundhara Enclave, 1.5 km from Dharamshila Rahat.

Dharamshila Rahat Medical Centre, as its name suggests has been started to relieve symptoms and suffering (Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social and Financial) of patients who have been told that their disease cannot be cured. What many patients do not understand is the fact that even at this stage they may live for months to years to decades, provided they start supportive and if need be Palliative Care, immediately after the diagnosis of an incurable illness.

Motivation for starting Dharamshila Rahat Medical Centre

Due to rising life expectancy and increasing ageing population, incidence of cancer and other incurable, progressive life limiting diseases is gradually increasing, resulting in an increase in the number of patients requiring Supportive and Palliative Care. Most patients suffering from incurable diseases do not have access to quality Supportive and Palliative Care in India. Palliative Care is a relatively newer speciality in India. MD Palliative care programme was started in 2012 and first MD Palliative specialists passed out in 2015, Fellowship and DNB in Palliative Care was started in 2021. Although there are multiple Palliative Care Centres in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, there is not a single exclusive, stand alone, dedicated Palliative Care Centre in the North India.

Our experience of caring for cancer patients since 1994 has taught us about the needs of patients who cannot be cured and the difference that good Supportive and Palliative Care can bring to the patient and family. To fulfil the gap between the need and availability, Dharamshila accepted the challenge to start North India’s first, stand alone dedicated centre to provide holistic, multidisciplinary, supportive and patient centric palliative care.
